A lake breeze races through the woods. The misty morning lifts like a curtain to reveal a warn Sun. Birds chatter with squirrels. Small critters move about the old cabin.
Inside, a low groan. A mind reassembled details. Daylight brings pain to the eyes and head. The forgotten trip here weights heavy.
“Is he still here?” words too weak to be heard leave Rose’s lips.
Sikence answers her. Even the shadows hide from her.
“Who was he?…. How did he know me?…. Why me!” Her consciousness plays tag with each question. She lies still waiting. But for what?

Very mysterious! There’s so much more I want to know now.

There are so many ways this could get to this point, and the way out is littered with possibilities. 😀

Eerily chilling — what I expect when you go “dark.” Love the lack of answers — makes it all the more frightening. I may have to change my mind about finding that cabin retreat.

I have done this before. 😉 Best to let the reader create their own demons. I like shadowy play. My best feel in stories runs dark

I like that line “Even shadows hide from her” so well done Mark..

Thank you very much. I was toying with that or ‘suspended like dust in the air’. I was going for isolation

It was an interesting image that caught my attention. I seen it on friends blog, and thought it was prefect place to hide a body. I’ll be by again. 🙂
